ISP presents workshops periodically throughout the year - some of our past offerings are listed below. Please contact us if you'd like us to let you know when the next round is scheduled!
Our workshops are focused on specific goals and skills, designed for those who want to expand, refine, and explore new ways of getting to the heart of improvisational work. Our classes are also great opportunities for non-improvisers to expand their abilities, and discover and open pathways to deeper performance work; all actors in process are welcome.
The Real People of Sondheim - Matthew Colton
Stephen Sondheim’s works are filled with people who are present, accountable, and deal with the emotions and realities of the life presented them. This workshop with Matthew Van Colton will focus on improvisation that will help shed the layers of camp and parody, and dig into characters that rely on each other, just as you rely on your scene partner, through authentic behavior, reaction, listening, and singing.
Finding the Words - Amanda Murphy
Truthful, direct, both simple and complex - Sondheim's lyrics are the hallmark and trademark of great communication. His words are the stuff of great musical theater performances. Learn the pathway to authentic lyricism, in the style of the master, and raise your abilities across your improvisation, and how to dig deeper into scripted song through ISP's unique methods.
Making it Matter: Scene partner work - Liz Joynt Sandberg
Just as Sondheim creates important relationships, the greatest tool in any improvisers tool belt is their partner. Focusing on your scene partner, and your relationship, creates deep story and great improvisation. Learn how to get out of your head, and into your heart, by engaging deeply with the person in front of you.
